As you read through this, ask yourself...do I see this in my organization? Can I affect it? Am I contributing to it? Will it change?

In a recent article in MIT Sloan Management Review, they studied the reasons people were leaving their jobs. (If you have an analytical preference - you will love this article!) Specifically, they studied the importance of these predictors as compared to compensation. So, each of these Top 5 is a more important reason to leave than compensation.

These are the Top 5 predictors of employee turnover:

  1. Toxic Corporate Culture

  2. Job Insecurity and Reorganization

  3. High Levels of Innovation

  4. Failure to Recognize Employee Performance

  5. Poor Response to Covid-19

Toxic Corporate Culture is the #1 Reason People Leave
So, how do you know if you have a toxic corporate culture?

We know this by now, don't we?
Why is this still such a problem?

One thing I see over and over again in organizations is a lack of consistency and follow-through using in the tools and behaviors that promote diversity and respect, like Emergenetics. Of course, this isn't the only thing that enables this toxic behavior, but if you've already invested in it, why not continue using it?

Demonstrating the cognitive diversity of your team is an entryway to conversations about other ways our uniqueness shows up at work. Using the language of grace and honoring the unique attributes of each individual is one small way we can show respect in the workplace.
